Tags, Tags, Tags – and Gifs

So, I was wanting to write a post, but none of my drafts looked appealing. I started reading other people’s posts instead, and I found out the Victoria Grace @ Wanderer’s Pen had tagged me! Thanks a bunch 🙂

***UPDATE*** Aaaand, then, as usual, life happened . . .

*Cue Jaws Theme*

_Ahem_ Two Months Later . . .

Back to the tag – Victoria said that I could choose which tag I wanted to do, so I just decided to answer ALL the questions. So we have the “Secret Life of a Book Blogger” questions first, and Victoria’s questions from the “Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award” next. Savvy?

First, I am prepared to spill all my secrets *shifty eyes*

Secret Life of a Book Blogger

1. How long have you been a blogger? –
Let me look . . . err . . . and after much digging, I found my blog’s birthday!! It’s August 13th, 2012 (I always did like 13). And now that I found it, I’ll have to do a blogoversary post. So I’ve been blogging on and off for 3ish years, but I didn’t get serious about it until last year.
2. At what point do you think you’ll stop blogging? –
I guess I haven’t thought that far ahead? I don’t intend to quit blogging. Even if no one reads it, I’ll probably still be here. I’m like that.
3. What is the best thing about blogging? –
While it’s fun to share your thoughts with the world, it’s not nearly as cool as interacting with diverse people from all over the place. My favorite part is definitely following/commenting/conversing with all of you fabulous people.
4. What is the worst thing? What do you do to make it okay? –
The worst part – not having the time/energy to blog when you really want to!!! I’m still working on trying to make it okay, to be honest. But not worrying about it is helpful 🙂
5. How long does it take you to create/find pictures to use? –
Depends on the picture. I usually have a pretty clear image in mind that I want to use (see my extensive use of gifs). If I am creating an image, it takes me days to be happy with it, so I rarely do that.
6. Who is your book crush?

Tom Imura, obviously. (from Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Maberry).

And forget the crush, I want to marry him.*
Tom is, to date, my only literary crush. As much as I love hordes of male characters, I am typically more inclined to want to be them than have a crush on them. (i.e., every man in LOTR.) And tbh, most of my favorite literary guys would be bad news (I’m looking at you, Howl, Mordred, Luthe, Hamlet, Peaceable Sherwood, etc, etc.). And I don’t have patience for that. Nope.
*sadly, even if he was real, I don’t think I’m Tom’s type, ;P
7. What author would you like to have on your blog? –
Robin McKinley. She was one of the first author’s to write books and characters that I fell in love with (outside of Tolkien. And I can’t interview him, for obvious reasons). Robin McKinley influenced me as a writer and reader, and I still love her books so much. It would be a huge honor to have her.
8. What do you wear when you write blog posts? –
 . . .
Because *everyone* dresses like G Dragon when they . . . wait, I’m pretty sure that NO ONE but GD dresses like GD . . .
Whatever I wear normally. For example, today I’m wearing jeans, an anime costume shirt, and clogs. What I want to know is, does anyone actually change what they wear for blogging purposes??
9. How long does it take you to prepare? –

Prepare for what? Work? The Zombie Apocalypse? This year’s election (I don’t think I’ll ever be prepared for that)? The Olympics (Err, never).

I’ll stop being a smartaleck now – as this probably means a blog post. It really depends. I’ve written a post off the top of my head, and taken about ten minutes. Other posts have taken weeks. But my average is a couple of hours.

10. How do you feel about the book blogger community? –
I like them a lot! We’re all united by our love of books and reading, so we have a big plot of common ground. On the other hand, you read a lot of unique voices and experience people from all walks of life, and that is one of the best parts of the community.

And now – The Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

Rules (which I will sort-of ignore)

Rules:
1. Thank the blogger who nominated you and link their website (click it)
2. Use the award logo on your post (see above)
3. Answer the 10 questions provided by the blogger who tagged you (following)
4. Nominate 10 bloggers (I did this last time, so I’m flouting the rules. )
5. Ask them 10 questions (I’ll leave 5 questions for anyone who is interested)
Now that the rules are out of the way, Victoria Grace’s fabulous (but difficult) questions:
1.) What is your favorite fandom?
Favorite because I like it, or the fandom itself?
Well, my favorite fandom (that I’d consider myself a part of) will always be Lord of the Rings. It’s the earliest one for me. If we’re talking about the fans themselves – err, still LOTR.
2.) If you were in an epic fantasy battle what weapon would you use? (Magic counts)
This is so hard!! Just ONE?? I want to use all the weapons 🙁
If I HAD to choose, a sword. I’m all about those classic lines and a sophistication.
3.) If you could be any fantasy or alien race besides human what would you be?
An ELF (a la Tolkien). This is the easiest answer of them all.
4.) What Divergent aptitude are you?
I just went and did the official test to help myself out, lol. And I quote:

“YOUR CHOICES DEMONSTRATE THE VIRTUES OF MORE THAN ONE FACTION, SCORING HIGHEST IN ERUDITE AND DAUNTLESS TRAITS”

Guess I’m Divergent. I’m not sure what I’d pick, to be honest. I’d probably decide that I wanted to be Factionless. That’s what I kept thinking when I was reading the book. Sure, you’re a total social outcast, but you’re on your own. Seriously.

5.) Japanese manga, American comic books, or graphic novels?
Manga! That is pretty much all I read (other than research books) when I have busy months (like June)
6.) Have you ever been out of your country? If so where have you been? If not where would you like to go?
I have been to Canada – but I really want to go EVERYWHERE. Especially Japan, Korea, Germany, Ireland, and New Zealand.
7.) What element would you like to control? Air, water, earth, or fire?
URGH – another hard question! All of them? I want to be master of all the elements . . . but if I had to choose . . . air. Distractible, fickle, packs a heckuva punch but it would really rather play a game. That sounds like me.
8.) Favorite video game, card game, or board game?
*continues griping offscreen* Probably board games. I love cooperative strategy games like Pandemic or Zombicide
9.) Favorite piece of jewelry (with a pic)?
Currently? I reaKIMG0357lly love earrings, and I got these super cute Mitoki ones in Chicago after the B.A.P concert (right side). The other ones are Bigbang earrings from that same store. I also love every piece of jewelry from the Fandom of the Month Club.
10.) Do you like your hair straight or curly?
When I straighten my hair, I look like Hugo Weaving (not that there’s anything wrong with what he looks like, for him). So I’ll pass.

So those were her varied and fun questions! Thanks Victoria!

Would you have answered the same as me, or opposite?

Oh – and before I forget – here are my extremely random questions, if you so desire:

1. In your opinion, what is the function of a rubber duck?
2. How far would you travel for a concert?
3. What is the strangest book you’ve ever read?
4. If you woke up tomorrow and were fluent in any language, what would you like it to be?
5. You are stranded in a warehouse that’s surrounded by enemies (zombies, rabid wolves, rival soldiers, rabid fans, take your pick) – what is the one fictional character you’d like to have at your side?

  1. This post was so so SO fun! 😀 I really enjoyed your answers.

    (THAT JAYNE GIF THOUGH!)

STOP BLOGGING?? :O WHAT EVEN NONSENSE IS THIS QUESTION. Ahem.

Howl. Yes. XD *chuckles* I love Howl to death though.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS FOREVERRR. <3

The #10 one with Hugo Weaving had my dying of laughter. XD

Those questions are SO COOL that I can't resist answering them. *proceeds to do so*

    1. In your opinion, what is the function of a rubber duck? — To be cute and floatable and squeak.

    2. How far would you travel for a concert? — Depends on the concert. I went a couple hours for Loreena McKennitt. I'd do it again for Skillet. It depends though since I just don't travel much. *shrug*

    3. What is the strangest book you’ve ever read? — I have no idea. Maybe Illusionarium by Heather Dixon because it was my first Steampunk. It was also awesome btw.

    4. If you woke up tomorrow and were fluent in any language, what would you like it to be? — UGH HOW DO I ANSWER THIS. Fine. Gaelic (all variations please). Or possibly Elvish because that would be COOL. Or, if I was being practical, Spanish, but that would be boring. So Gaelic.

    5. You are stranded in a warehouse that’s surrounded by enemies (zombies, rabid wolves, rival soldiers, rabid fans, take your pick) – what is the one fictional character you’d like to have at your side? — Eliot Spencer from Leverage. He always wins a fight and would totally know what to do. Plus he's awesome, so. Win-win. 😀

    1. Awwww, thanks Deborah! (That stop blogging one though . . . really?)

I feel like I was always too practical for crushes on book guys (err, or crushes in general) – I’d be like, “Well, they’d make nice decorations, but I wouldn’t want to DATE them. They’re beastly.” Or would make me feel like an unnattractive oaf, just by their existence. Take your pick. But then Tom hit me unawares and BAM – heartless streak OVER. And can I say, as an adult, I thought I was safe . . .

AHEM – anyhow – that Hugo Weaving gif was almost my favorite find for the tag. It was just so . . . accurate. So I’m a dork that’s laughing at my own post 😛
Thanks for answering my questions! I was so proud of myself for thinking of really random things that I’d never seen asked on one of these things. And then I didn’t tag anyone, so I wasn’t sure if anyone would answer. So THANKS 🙂 You gave very good answers. I’ve never watched Leverage (yet), but from the INTERNET (i.e., the font of pop culture knowledge), I think you’re on to something 🙂 And, fyi, if you want to know how far I would travel for a concert, you can look at my sister Grace’s comment. There is no distance too far for BIGBANG (I’m a sad case). Money is the only obstacle. (Always)
      Thanks again!!

  2. Okay, I want to answer these even though I’m not a blogger.

    1. In your opinion, what is the function of a rubber duck?

Everybody knows, rubber ducks are actually here just to be chewed on by small children and dogs.

    2. How far would you travel for a concert?

Uhm, weeeeell, apparently halfway around the world, since I was just seriously discussing the merits of throwing away my life savings to go see BigBang perform in Seoul this August.

    3. What is the strangest book you’ve ever read?

Remember that book about the weasel that falls obsessively in love with a fish? Yeah, I think that’s definitely the weirdest book I’ve ever read. Here’s the link to it on Amazon:https://www.amazon.com/Wainscott-Weasel-Tor-Seidler/dp/1481410105

    4. If you woke up tomorrow and were fluent in any language, what would you like it to be?

Mandarin, I think. It would be great to have all 1000+ characters in my head without having to learn them.

    5. You are stranded in a warehouse that’s surrounded by enemies (zombies, rabid wolves, rival soldiers, rabid fans, take your pick) – what is the one fictional character you’d like to have at your side?

Hmmm….Itachi Uchiha, maybe? There are a lot I can think of off the top of my head, but I feel like I’d be pretty safe with him.

    1. You can always answer my questions <3

#1 – you and Deborah made great points. The head brewer at BHBC used a tiny rubber duck to float in his beer the other day. I have no idea why . . .
#2. Since you and I were contemplating this together, you already know my feelings on the matter (too many feelings to be comfortable with)
#3. YES> I can’t believe you found it. SO STRAAAANGE. And I hated it, if I recall correctly. I’m not sure if I’ve read anything stranger. I might have. *thinks hard*
#4. Mandarin is a great choice. I think mine would be Japanese. As long as I had all the Kanji memorized. Or maybe Russian? That would be cool.
#5. OOOH – Itachi is a great choice. At least you would die with something nice to look at, if you died. Which should definitely be part of the decision process. And he’s practically invincible, so there’s that.

      Thanks for answering my questions!

      1. “OOOH – Itachi is a great choice. At least you would die with something nice to look at, if you died. Which should definitely be part of the decision process. And he’s practically invincible, so there’s that.”

Hahahah, yes, I did think of that. But, I was mostly considering the “practically invincible” aspects of his character.

        1. I was just picturing zombie hordes or something else terrible to look at – and I thought I’d rather see something beautiful in my final moments *snickers* I’m very deep like that.

  3. Even before I saw your answer to which weapon I was thinking a sword too. I pretty much laughed when you said sword as well. Also I just took the divergent aptitude test since I had never done it before and I scored highest in Amity and Abnegation. Erudite wasn’t far behind those though. 🙂

I love your questions. They are definitely quite random.
    1. I don’t I guess the function of a rubber duck would be too float and look cool.
    2. I actually have never been to a concert so I don’t know.
    3. I have no idea. I’ve read too many books to really pick out any that seemed strange. Maybe there were none or I just can’t remember.
    4. I’m learning french currently at school but I’ve always wanted to learn German for some reason so I would probably choose that.
    5. I would probably choose Ruby Rose because she’s awesome and adorable and feisty.

    Great Post 🙂

    1. Swords are the best. They just are 🙂
I suppose you’re Divergent too? (I think a lot of people probably would be, lol)
Random is my specialty – thanks for answering my questions! You’ve never been to a concert? Not even a terrible recital that someone you know was in? (I’ve been to a few of those). To be honest, I’ve been present at a lot of classical concerts, but I’ve been to only a handful of concerts that I paid money to get in to. (Most of them were when I was volunteering or something).
I loved taking French, and I plan on picking it back up again. German has always fascinated me. They have so many words for things that we don’t, and I’ve heard it can be rough to translate novels from.
Love Ruby Rose! My brother finally got me to sit down and watch Rwby, and I have really enjoyed it (I’m most of the way through part 2). Ruby WOULD be a great person to have in your corner in a bad situation.
Great answers, and thanks again for stopping by!

  4. REBEKAH!!! 😀 I’ve missed you and your blog posts. But I know a lot’s been going on, too, so I understand.

Your blog tags are always so much fun to read. Not just for the GIFs (which are always awesome), but also your answers. I’ve always loved your sense of humor. 🙂 Also, LOTR forever!

I tested highest in Amity and Abnegation on the Divergent aptitude test. My lowest one was Erudite… which… doesn’t make me feel very smart. :S

I’d love to travel more someday, too. Ireland, Japan, and New Zealand are on my list (our common choices – yay!), but I’d also love to visit Italy, Iceland, Spain, and Australia. Might as well just as EVERYWHERE, right?

And yes, you must do a blogoversary thing next month. You have no choice now, especially since you made the birthday public. 😉

    Now, to your questions:

    1. Rubber ducks are meant to imitated. I liked trying to quack and squeak like one when I was little. XD

    2. I once traveled 80 miles to a concert in Connecticut. My mom and I went to a casino in Connecticut to see Josh Groban perform, then stayed overnight. I also went to several shows in Worcester, MA when I was in my “metal music journalist” phase. That’s about 50 miles from home.

    3. Do books you DNF’d count? Because my choice for strangest read would be Faerie Wars by Herbie Brennan. It wasn’t so much “strange” as it was “disturbing,” especially something that’s considered children’s fantasy…

    4. Italian. That was the first language that came to mind. I’ve always loved the sound of it. My second choice would be Elvish, though. 🙂

    5. I’m actually going with Aileana Kameron from Elizabeth May’s Falconer Trilogy. I just finished the second book last night and LOVED it. She’d take care of whatever’s coming after us, and it wouldn’t matter what weapon she used. Her sword, fists / legs, blunderbuss, Falconer powers / magic – she’d have a field day with them, and I would wish I could be more like her. *lol*

    1. WAVES WILDLY – It’s good to be back – It’s sweet of you to miss me (and tbh, I sort of missed myself, as my whole month felt like a blur I was only partially involved in – see my recap for details). I’ve missed being on here!

*blushes* Thanks – I always feel like such a goofball/dork (which I am, by nature) – and for whatever reason, that really comes across loud and clear on the blog.

      LOTR FOREVER.

Well, testing low on Erudite shouldn’t make you feel “not smart.” ;P Because even though a lot of the Erudite characters are “technically” smart, they’re sort of stupid. They have the lowest understanding of human nature, and the highest regard for technology. It’s like they understand all the hows, but don’t really get the whys. Amity is where I scored the lowest – I was actually a pretty even three-way between Erudite, Dauntless, and Abnegation (figure that out), with Candor close behind. While I love the idea of Amity’s lifestyle and philosophy, their practical choices weren’t very me 🙂 And of course, I would have just chosen to be factionless. It never sounded bad to me. But I never claimed that I was normal.

If you ever need a travel buddy for Ireland, Japan, NZ, or wait, ANYWHERE, you know who to contact! I am literally up for anything. Well – I’m not actually wild about Antarctica. Not yet, anyhow.

I kind of committed myself, didn’t I? *Whimpers* I do HAVE a blogoversary, anyhow.

On answer #1 – That is TOO CUTE SARA. You win this answer.
#2. 80 mi is pretty far, and that sounds like fun. What shows did you see in Worcester, MA? (grins at “metal music journalist” phase). The farthest I’ve travelled specifically for a concert (so far) was the B.A.P concert, and that was 207 miles! It was 100% worth it.
#3. Faerie Wars . . . *shudders* Yeah, I remember you mentioning this. It was a DNF for me too. Apparently you’ve never read books about Weasels being besotted with fish (see my sister Grace’s comment, lol)
#4. Italian is such a beautiful, musical language. And so is Elvish! But the former is certainly more practical.
#5. I saw your bits about the Falconer Trilogy. It sounds really cool, and your praise/comments on Twitter/Goodreads already convinced me that I need to read them. And based on your comment, Aileana sounds like just the sort of person to have in a bad situation!

Thanks for answering my questions! <3 RH

      1. I’m not wild about Antarctica, either. So we can go everywhere but there without a problem. 😉

I’m not sure how well I’d fit into any of the factions, tbh. Even factionless isn’t quite my style, but it might be the one place where I’d feel most like myself. (And yeah, I’m with you on the fact that most of us are probably Divergent. ;P)

What shows did I see in Worcester? Let’s see…

        – Epica (twice as headliners, very good)
        – Within Temptation, with 3 as a support act (one of the best shows ever!)
        – Nightwish, with Kamelot as support act (Kamelot stole the show – seriously. Nightwish was… just… not good. And when Anette Olson was fired 2 weeks later, I wasn’t surprised.)
        – Kamelot, with Delain and Eklipse as support acts (also one of the best shows ever!)

I also knew a couple local unsigned bands, so I made the trek out to Worcester when I had time to see them. But, gosh, I think it’s been… at least 2 years since my last metal show. I still love the music, but I’m not as interested in taking the hike up there anymore.

        1. -On Divergent – I know, right? But I still think Factionless is the best choice in a bunch of bad options, you know.

EPICA??!! Awww, so cool. And of course, I’d leap at the chance to go see WT live, and I bet that was incredible. I’m also a big fan of Delain and Kamelot, so it doesn’t surprise me that they were great.

  5. Haha I love your answers! Thanks so much for doing the tag and I’m glad you enjoyed it. ^ ^ YESHHHH for Kirito gif and Lord of the Rings fandom forever! And elves unite! ^ ^

    storitorigrace.blogspot.com

  6. LOTR forever!
The Elrond gif, yesss, that’s so my problem too!
*ahem* So I agree with you on so many of these answers. And I love the added smart-alec tone. 😉

If I could be fluent in any language, hmm, I’m torn between Japanese and German.
Places I’d like to travel: New Zealand, Japan, and everywhere I can! XD
Strangest book I’ve ever read, let’s see…Girl With The Pearl Earning. Disturbing and depressing, ugh had to read it for highschool way back. Your strangest book sounds really strange though: weasels besotted with fish? What does that even mean… XD
Character I’d like to have at my side: Legolas, because blonde elf and awesome with every weapon. 😉

  7. I happen to think Howl would make a perfect husband, life would never be boring.
I usually wear pajamas when I blog, mostly because its always night.

    1. Yeah, boring wouldn’t be a problem with Howl, lol. But I don’t think I’d have the patience!
      Ahh, pajamas.
