TTT: Top Ten Books On My Spring TBR

Top 10 Tuesday is a fun weekly meme hosted/created by the ladies over at The Broke and the Bookish. For instructions on how to participate, click here.

I couldn’t pass this one up, as it’s nice and easy. My TBR stretches from here to Jupiter (and fills up half of my rental house), but picking out a few to focus on might help me get to more of them in the end

1. Memories of Ash by Intisar Khanani

I'm not posting the cover today (even though it's gorgeous) because I'll be participating in the cover reveal tomorrow! Be sure to check out my blog for the cover, info on preorders, and other fun stuff! More importantly, Memories of Ash is diverse, layered fantasy and the sequel to Sunbolt, and I couldn't be more excited about it. Read my review of Sunbolt (or better yet, read the book), and get all excited with me.

2. The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss

I actually just started this as a buddy read with blogger-friend Sara Letourneau . It was a little hard to get back into the swing of things (it's been over a year since I read The Name of the Wind), but it's good so far. I've decided that reading my favorite genre (epic fantasy) is like a mini vacation - not because it's easy, per se, but because it's a welcome respite from the business/stress of everyday life. So thank you, Patrick.

3. The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye

SO PRETTY
I heard about this one through Cait over at Paper Fury (she's part of the blog tour). Russia, dueling magicians, historical fantasy - this book sounds right up my alley!

4. Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton

MORE PRETTY COVERS
Persian-inspired fantasy? YES. Deserts, djinn, gunslingers and rakish foreigners? Please and thank you.

5. A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab

I'm actually kind of embarrassed that I haven't read this :) I  mean, it's about magic and multiple Londons. Anyhow, I decided to fix this problem by buying a shiny paperback edition and putting it on my desk. Now I just have to read it.

6. Risuko: A Kunoichi Tale by David Kudler

I wanted to read this one as soon as I saw the title ( a kunoichi is the simplified/modernized term for a female ninja). It's a historical adventure novel set in 16th century Japan - and thanks to the author and NetGalley, I have an eARC of this one that I can start ASAP!

7. The Moon in the Palace by Weina Dei Randel

Now we have the Tang Dynasty of China. Mei, the young woman who became the most infamous empress in Chinese history, is the narrator of this debut novel. Naturally, I'm also fascinated by Chinese history, and this book looks really good. (Thanks for the eARC Sourcebooks!)

8. Masque by W. R. Gingell

And the prettiest cover yet
I literally read about this book ten minutes ago - and now I really want to read it. It's a murder mystery retelling of Beauty and the Beast by an indie author. The reviews compare it to Jane Austen, and say that the romance takes a backseat to the mystery. After reading just a few blurbs, I'm sold.

9. The Girl from Everywhere by Heidi Heilig

Another one that I actually have a copy of. It's about time travel, and there's a ship on the cover. And I heard there was a Persian thief involved. That's really all it takes to make me want to read a book.

10. Ivory and Bone by Julie Eshbaugh

Prehistoric Pride and Prejudice? I'll read that in a heartbeat. Warring clans and survival stuff are just bonuses. Honestly, this premise is fabulous.

So, are any of these on your TBR? (Are they now?) Which one looks the best to you? What book are you looking forward to reading this spring?

  1. AHHH THESE ALL LOOK SO GOOD! And omg The Girl From Everywhere and Rebel of the Sands are amazing. UTTERLY AMAZING. <3 Some of my favourites of this year. :') I have Ivory and Bone to read/review too and I'm quite excited. eep! Also of course The Crown's Game is amazing. 😉 I'm glad my review was convincing!

    1. I’m really excited about all of the ones you named off 🙂
(and yes, you totally convinced me about all of them, actually)
I plan on starting my ARC of Ivory and Bone soon here. It will be fun to see what you think 🙂
      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I am so excited for The Crown’s Game! I have been looking forward to it for all of this year, and I hope that it lives up to everyone’s expectations! Hope that you get to read all of these this Spring (think of it as spring cleaning!). 🙂

    1. I know! The Crown’s Game is really a standout as far as setting and theme are concerned.
“(think of it as spring cleaning!)” HEY – that is the best excuse ever and I can’t believe it hasn’t occurred to me. I’m going to just read all afternoon one of these days and say, “Oh, I can’t do – — – -, spring cleaning, you know?”
      Thanks for stopping by!

    1. I tend to have so many books around (whether on my list, or literally on my floor), that I spazz out and can’t even focus on picking one. So I went with books I could actually start at any minute this time. This list is sort of my visible promise to actually read them. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by, and I’ll go check out your TTT!

  3. Yay for The Wise Man’s Fear! 😉

The Girl From Everywhere is also on my Spring TBR list (at least, I think I’ll get to it this spring… but definitely by summer). I’m going to wait on The Crown’s Game, Rebel of the Sands, and Ivory and Bone until I start seeing reviews. As much as I enjoy YA fantasy, I’ve also been burned often enough by over-hype that I’m going to be more careful with debut authors in that genre from now on.

I’ve also yet to read A Darker Shade of Magic (or any Victoria / V.E. Schwab books, for that matter). Will need to rectify that one day…

As for what I’m planning to read after The Wise Man’s Fear… Jacey Bedford’s Winterwood is at the top of my TBR Tower, so that will be next. A few others I can remember include Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass (just to check out the series – I don’t have high expectations), George R.R. Martin’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and Maggie Stiefvater’s Lament.

    1. Oh, over-hyped scares me away too. I actually have a copy of Ivory and Bone, so that’s the first one of the three I’ll read.
If I get to A Darker Shade of Magic before you, I’ll definitely tell you what I think 🙂

I really want to read Winterwood too! The things I’ve heard have all just made me want to read it more (I saw it on your blog too, so if you get to it first . . . I’m all ears). I’m also interested to see what you think of Throne of Glass. You know it wasn’t me, but Victoria Grace and a lot of other people enjoyed it, so you never know.

Someday I’ll give Maggie Stiefvater a second chance. I really didn’t care for the Wolves of Mercy Falls (I was so bored by the first one I fell asleep, several times). But so many other people rave about her books (including Cait, lol), and I’ve heard Maggie in person twice now and she was awesome . . . so, maybe someday.

      Thanks for stopping by!

      1. Winterwood will actually be the next book I read after The Wise Man’s Fear. So, yes, I’ll definitely let you know what I think of it. 😉 And yes, let me know your thoughts on Ivory & Bone and A Darker Shade of Magic once you read them.

        1. Will do! I plan on starting one (or both) of them after The Wise Man’s Fear. Despite my read-all-at-once tendencies, I’ve found that longer, involved stories like TWMF go better for me when I don’t read other books simultaneously!

    1. So far (and I’m halfway through), I am really loving “The Wise Man’s Fear.” I hadn’t realized just how much I was needing to read a good fantasy novel until I picked it up!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting 🙂

  4. The Crown’s Game! Cait convinced me to read it. 🙂 And A Darker Shade of Magic. I also want to get into the Lunar Chronicles series.

    1. Cait convinced us all to read it, I think. She needs some sort of commission, 🙂

I plan on starting ADSoM pretty soon here, since I own it. I’ll definitely tell you what I think if I get to it first.

I think you’d like the Lunar Chronicles a lot. Marissa Meyer’s love for things like manga, anime, and Asian pop culture combined with Star Wars and Firefly – it’s all there if you know what to look for 🙂

      Thanks for commenting! <3
